The Purser Department is the ‘accounting’ department of the cruise ship. Usually located in the main lobby area of the ship, it takes care of all the accounting work of the ship. Apart from accounting, it also deals with passengers’ accommodations, complaints and requests, in a similar way to the hotel reception. Besides, the department is also responsible for crew payroll, custom and immigration, passports and visas, currency exchange, as well as handling mails of the passengers. Job positions in purser department of ships include of Chief Purser, Deputy Purser, Assistant Purser, Junior Assistant Purser, Receptionist, and Crew Purser.
Chief Purser supervises all the departments onboard the ship except the deck, engine and entertainment departments. He/she is responsible for managing day-to-day issues of the passengers and crew administration, and controls all the financial operations and internal auditing on the ship. He/she also deals with passenger claims and complaints as well as supervises Deputy Purser, Assistant Purser and Receptionist. The job requires a formal degree in hotel management along with 5 years of experience in a managerial position in a hotel. Good communication skills and fluency in English language is a must for this position.
Salary for this position ranges between US$ 4300-6000 per month.
Deputy Purser reports to the Chief Purser. He/she is responsible for managing various operations within the purser department as directed by the Chief Purser. The position requires a formal management certification along with a minimum 3 years of experience in managerial position in a hotel. Good communication skills and fluency in English language is a must.
Salary for this position ranges between US$ 3800-4800 per month.
Assistant Purser reports to the Deputy Purser. He/she is responsible for managing various operations within the purser office and front desk. Previous hotel experience along with a formal management certification is required for this position. Good communication skills and command over English language is essential.
Salary for this position ranges between US$ 2000-2500 per month.
Junior Assistant Purser reports to Assistant Purser. He/she is responsible for managing operations on the front desk/reception area dealing directly with the passengers. Previous hotel experience is essential for this position. Good command over English language is essential while knowledge of other language/s will be an added advantage. He/she can be promoted to the position of Assistant Purser after gaining the required experience.
Salary for this position ranges between US$ 1600-1800 per month.
Crew purser is responsible for various duties relating to the crew administration such as sleeping quarter allocations, security dog tags etc. Previous work experience on a ship or in a hotel in a similar position would be an advantage for the applicants. Fluency in English language is desired.
Salary for this position ranges between US$ 1900-2300 per month.
